The Tashkent wholesale agricultural produce market (Kuylyuk market), which operated as a joint-stock company, is being liquidated. The shareholders made the decision to terminate the activity on February 29.

According to the executive body of the joint-stock company, the work of entrepreneurs on the territory of the market was suspended on January 5.

At the same time, it will be possible to suspend the liquidation of the market and restore it if government agencies or other organizations make proposals for the effective organization of the market territory, including in areas beneficial to the population.

The shareholders’ message from March 1 states that a liquidation commission has been created, headed by the market director O. Dzhumayev. The liquidation period is set at six months, and the deadline for accepting applications from creditors is two months from the date of publication of the message.

The shareholders of the Kuylyuk wholesale market are the Tashkent khokimiyat (93.2%) and the labor collective (6.8%). It is worth noting that when making the decision on liquidation, the quorum of the meeting was 94.33%.

The public learned about plans to relocate the market in December 2021. At that time, it was reported that the transport interchange near the Kuylyuk market would be expanded, and the Tashkent khokimiyat announced that the dehkan market and the adjacent wholesale trade areas would be moved to Food City, 6.5 km from Kuylyuk in the Tashkent region. Gazeta.uz then found out that the decision to relocate the market was made back in October 2017.

Following these reports, entrepreneurs protested against the relocation of the market, five of whom were arrested. The sellers reported that they were given letters about the need to vacate their shelves and move by January 1, 2022.

A few days later, the market’s deputy director for security, Kodirjon Normirzaev, told UzA that the market administration had not distributed notices to sellers. “We have not yet been notified by either the city authorities or the market administration,” he said.

Former khokim of Bektemir district Tapil Makhamadziyaev confirmed at the same time that the wholesale food market would gradually move to Food City. “Instead of selling on the asphalt at Kuylyuk, it is better to sell there,” he said.

In June 2022, former khokim of the city Jakhongir Artykhodjaev, in connection with the expansion of the Tashkent Ring Road, by his decision allowed the seizure of land plots for state and public needs on which the objects of the Kuylyuk dekhkan market and the Kuylyuk universal shopping center, which belongs to the Triumvirat-Qurilish company, are located.

The khokimiyat then announced that the Kuylyuk market, whose territory is being seized for the needs of the city, will not be demolished, and part of the parking lot and temporary rows will be allocated for the construction of the interchange.
